Delaware State University's football team, commonly referred to as the Delaware State Hornets, is a Division I FCS program that competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The team was founded in 1924 and has a rich history of success, including multiple conference championships and appearances in the FCS playoffs. The Hornets play their home games at Alumni Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 7,193. The team's colors are blue and gold, and their mascot is named "Hornet." The current head coach is Rod Milstead, who took over the program in 2019. The team has produced several notable NFL players, including John Taylor, Tarik Cohen, and Paul Palmer. The Delaware State Hornets are known for their hard-hitting defense and explosive offense, making them a formidable opponent in the MEAC.
