Wikipedia - Rhein Fire (ELF)

The Rhein Fire are an American football team in Düsseldorf, Germany, which plays in the European League of Football since it was added as an expansion team during the 2022 ELF season.

History

On 25 September 2021, the Rhein Fire was announced as the third expansion and 11th overall team to play in the European League of Football beginning in the 2022 season. The team would be taking the identity of the former NFL Europe team, after the league reached an agreement before the 2021 season with the NFL for the naming rights. In the 2022 pre-season, the management announced that the former NFL Europe Rhein Fire head coach Jim Tomsula would also be the first head coach of the Rhein Fire in the European League of Football.

Rhein Fire was an American football team that played in the NFL Europe league from 1995 to 2007. The team was based in Düsseldorf, Germany, and was named after the Rhine River that flows through the city. The team's colors were red, black, and white, and their logo featured a fiery football with the team name written in bold letters.

Rhein Fire was one of the most successful teams in the NFL Europe league, winning two World Bowls in 1998 and 2000. The team had a strong fan base in Düsseldorf and was known for its high-scoring offense and aggressive defense. Many NFL players got their start with Rhein Fire, including Kurt Warner, Jake Delhomme, and Dante Hall.

The team played its home games at the Rheinstadion, a 54,000-seat stadium that was also used for concerts and other events. The stadium was known for its lively atmosphere, with fans cheering and waving flags throughout the game.

Although Rhein Fire disbanded in 2007 when the NFL Europe league folded, the team remains a beloved part of Düsseldorf's sports history. Fans still wear Rhein Fire jerseys and attend reunions to celebrate the team's legacy.
